Briana, Stephanie, and Max are all LMU students looking to the future and finding it full of uncertainty. So they set out on the road to speak with alumni who’ve faced unique hurdles and can help them embrace the winding road ahead. After meeting with people in diverse fields like marketing, comedy, immigration law, and more, the roadtrippers realize that it’s impossible to map out the future perfectly—but there’s no such thing as a wrong turn if you listen to yourself.

Making it to and through college is no small accomplishment—but how do you transition from the classroom to the workforce?

We're all LMU students. We decided to take this big green RV around southern California. &gt;&gt; From the beach to the mountains. &gt;&gt; To interview successful LMU alumni. &gt;&gt; I love it. Yes. &gt;&gt; Yeah. &gt;&gt; I'm excited to see the different areas of southern California. The different people we're going to meet. &gt;&gt; Hear their stories and hear their insight. &gt;&gt; We're all approaching the end of our college career. We all are kind of struggling to figure out what do we wanna do next. &gt;&gt; What's after college like what do we wanna do? We're trying to figure that out together. This is the Loyola Marymount University roadtrip. [MUSIC]

Marymount University Roadtrip. the future, to make the most of it. too much time in a path on. graduate and be that was my academic career, to prepare for after college? school, do we want to go to law school? I don't know what I'm doing. struggeling to figure out way I'm going to go. happen after graduation, out together alumni. >> You get it? >> All right, kids. way to interview Tony Brown. an after-school program, but it's a community center. at, and we throw everything we can at them. music, wellness, supports that are missing, we put all that back in. of LA does, it gives kids a chance to be successful. where you're like, maybe this is the path that I'm did you ever feel that way for sure? I literally drew a picture of this trying to figure it all out. now what am I going to do next? literally an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of lined paper. I made categories. How much money am I going to have in the bank? to map something out. dream and I put it down on paper. pursue some of these things. perfectly, but as you pursue those things, I'm at, but I'm always dreaming. for the last 16 years and I'm still learning. have a linear path in life, way to something he's really passionate in. doing that in my future. to hear all that. more peaceful about my future. >>Yeah, that's awesome! I'm also a huge fan of her work. >> Hi. like,     >> Yeah! and I freaked out >> So it was a little tricky for because I was geeking out the whole time. down! >> I have tea and didn't have a plan of one of the first times in my do. designer. I thought that's the life. and having a trampoline. I'm going to be a toy designer. I started really getting into puppetry. life. this is like the right path. New York City and toy design isn't what I'm supposed to do crazy thing that happened. Barbie went to my senior show at the campus and about being a toy designer? funny enough, I have. >> She said, I really think you might be good Mattel? doing and the salary I would make. I had gotten my first commercial audition. commercials and it went really well in the beginning. you end up doing, you're working towards something where the next thing's going to be. I am and a living doing what I love. that for wanted to be a toy designer. your head that said, it's not it. was gonna be a toy designer. been it for me. I think I'm in a different place now. listen to your gut in those situations. felt like the right thing to do. to be largely because she had an instinct in that moment head that's telling me to chase something else? not alone in going through it. to be.

Dream From Where You’re At

Marymount University Roadtrip. the beach to the mountains. 16 years of school, all of a sudden, saying, all right, what's next? for? about what I want to do, I want to help people, I'm just not really sure how. doing, I'm just so overwhelmed. graduation morning, I was so anxious. stepping into the real world to do all of this on my own. often in a rush to grow up worries kind of go  away sometimes but your future that kind of  scares you? go away with the voices in your  head that say you can't do this, you're too whatever. You're not welcome here, insecurity talking to you, and it's not real. did ten years ago when I  was graduating. I think that you just have  to ask yourself of like, "where do I want to  go next?" continue pursuing that?" all these lessons to teach you something to myself. would have had a little bit more fun with the time world. figure out, try this, try that. on immigration law. school, but how am I supposed to get there? and Loyola Marymount University. you. - Brianna. pursuing immigration law, how did you get where you are today? I was born in South America. country knowing zero English, - And from high school, LMU. listen, I'm not coming here, do that. that's for the good looking, other guys, right? - The smart guys, together. insecurity, and so I said, all right, all right, overwhelmed. bar, because that's 200 years from now. - Or how difficult this is going to be, but you know what? be, like say, four years from now? focus on where the endpoint will be, in the middle, just get through it. focusing on, starts with one first step. way, because if you don't try something, if you can make it. times in his life he couldn't do something, it well. just make you stronger and ready for I currently work here at Netflix, marketing team for film. marketing components from your trailer, media. those components together in promoting a film. Was it just just a general template in your head? know what? going to get out and immediately and it's going to be easy. this thick that has all of a year and got no call backs. something, a door will open. your foot right in that crack and try and like I'm losing myself. - And I don't know how to deal with that all the time work? color in the workplace is challenging. really long time to grab ahold of is to be world, comes out in your creative work. I can speak that language, our fans. and say the things that people I spent a lot of years doing that. that that's really hard to roll back within yourself. would have been a little stronger. learn much later in life how valuable my what's important to me. the world and really be rooted in that's going to really serve you. - This is my first time in snow. so powerful in her words, she didn't let anything get in her way. this trip is, your 20s and the time to experiment. everything you're passionate about. to success, there's only one you. that, going to be unique as well. where we're worried, but love and that you're going to thrive in as well.

I have a very vicious dog. interview with Effie Brown, the producer of Real Women Have Curves, a lot of great credits all around. year of school because I was like, models for me to pattern myself after to be a producer. in are usually about women, people of color, disabilities in front of and behind the camera. and solve the world problems through storytelling. a story, it's harder for you to rape them. them. you to keep them in poverty. the others as yourself. to find my place and find my voice. I don't know where it's come from. people who feel like the other come in, thinking that and they're already pulled together. even at my age, it together all the time. belong. you're part of the imposter syndrome, we gotta have hope. and I know that you will, and to the right of you and is room for more of us. only way wer're going to change things, you know and take over the world. point, do you know what mean? about right now.  You really could! help somebody else make their way up many words to describe her but boss. tailoring to marginalized communities and it just really inspired me. the different lives I could have. I want to help people, I'm just not really sure how. explore the different professions out there. wanted to be of service, could do that as a career. be integrated into my life. trip at Loyola Marymoujnt and right down the highway, world that completely opened my eyes. experience really humanizing homelessness, knew their story. that got me out of bed in the morning, and explore. during the holidays. Thanksgiving meal kits, and then toys. becomes Santa's workshop. in people's lives that we're making here. being motivated by making wanted my career to go. right there. Julianne North run Build a Miracle, homes. we had already met. 22. which used to be the entrance to LMU on the other side work in an orphanage in Mexico. raised $150,000 to expand the orphanage. many different things on campus, donating us truckloads of food to take down. >>So that kinda gave us the idea that people are excited about  helping others lot of confidence to what we do now. just have a good thing out there to give people to do, house a year. And then I think we build one house our first we built three houses. 350. people. the poorest neighborhoods in the nation. just. >> He comes from very similar here, and it's, my god, this is so amazing. emotion and of our biggest lessons is. It doesn't matter how hard I'm working, I don't even think of it as being hard work because I'm just making a connection. other people and to you. what empowers me about what l just heard from that to my life.  is be that voice for who have been silenced. considering an entirely new path. a positive influence on the world. people for a living, whatever that may be. if you're passionate in it, others no matter what.

Getting a degree is a huge undertaking—figuring out what to do with it is another one altogether. That’s why, together with Loyola Marymount University, we’re sending a group of students on a road trip around Southern California to interview LMU alumni and see how they were able to translate their education into fulfilling work. Follow the journey to hear stories of tackling hurdles, finding yourself, and turning a degree into a thriving career.
