Day to Day

My typical workday will consist of checking emails, looking at my auditions for the day, recording and editing them, and sending them to my agent. Also, I'll have recording sessions from my home studio as well as going to studios throughout town to record a session there. Some days, it's just auditioning, others may have both. Some may have multiple sessions. It all depends on the schedule.

Advice for Getting Started

Here's the first step for everyone

I recommend training with professional instructors, many of whom are voice actors and casting directors themselves. Practice reading copies or scripts and record yourself. Get used to hearing your voice. Look in magazines that you enjoy reading and find the advertisements in them. The copy you'll find can be surprisingly good for voiceover.

Q&A

Are voiceover freelancers or voice actors from talent agencies different or the same?

Asked by Anonymous Student

A voice actor is a voice actor. Not all have an agent, but the prolific and successful ones almost always do.

How do one get cast?

Asked by Anonymous Student

One who auditions for the role and is chosen amongst many candidates. Sometimes though, after you've worked with different casting people, voice directors, and producers, they may decide to cast you and hire you with no audition.

What has inspired or motivated you to pursue in voice acting?

Asked by Anonymous Student

I started acting in 6th grade and was in plays every year until I graduated HS. I always loved to perform. I was a child when I started performing with my voice to friends and family members. I never did it professionally until after college.

How do you voice your character?

Asked by Anonymous Student

Often times when I'm reading a character, I feel as though I'm that character. It's usually a great thing because your performance is less inhibited and feels more real. It's fun to move around and incorporate physicality in the performance too.

Have you ever done informational interviews too with someone to gain insight into voice acting?

Asked by Anonymous Student

I have done interviews before regarding my voiceover work and I always hope that they inspire and inform.
