- I grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada.
- I rebelled against the tech career path my family expected me to take and leaned into creative practices like sculpture and video making.
- I went to New York University, where I studied socially engaged art with a minor in sculpture.
- After visiting my family in Ethiopia, my curiosity about connecting global communities led me to teach myself web development.
- I went back to school for a Master of Fine Arts in design and technology at Parsons, which expanded my horizons and introduced me to participatory design and physical computing.
- My artistic practice grew as I created interactive works and advised musicians on stage and wearable tech designs.
- I eventually got a job as the director of NEW INC, where I foster innovation in art, design, and technology for over a hundred members annually.
