About Jhone

  • It took me a while to finish college as I worked full-time and tried to find my niche— I ultimately decided on mathematics and finished my degree in eight years.
  • After earning my degree in mathematics, I started my career as a middle school math teacher.
  • I found a lot of opportunities within the Clark County School District in Nevada—I worked as a training teacher, assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction, and chief technology officer.
  • I then got the opportunity to go to New York and work for the state’s Department of Education as the senior deputy commissioner for education.
  • I spent three years doing that before coming back home to Nevada to serve as the superintendent of public instruction.
  • I still love being in the classroom and will occasionally take on teaching opportunities in addition to my role as superintendent of public instruction.
