Go see the world when you’re young enough and brave enough to do it.
About Russell
- I grew up in a very rural part of Texas, where I spent time cowboying and rodeoing.
- I accepted that I needed to go to a university straight out of high school—at the time, I didn’t really realize that other post-secondary options were available.
- It wasn’t until I left home that I really started discovering myself—I found that education was the path to that as I met people with all different kinds of backgrounds, perspectives, and ideologies.
- I earned my bachelor’s degree in communications, a master’s degree in communication studies, and a doctorate in interpersonal communication.
- It was the educators I met along my journey that really inspired me to want to work in education as well and pay forward the influence and impact that great educators had on me.
- I then built my career in higher education.
- I spent 10 years as president of Amarillo College and then transitioned to my current position as chancellor of Austin Community College.
