My path in life has been direct
1.
I grew up in a very rural part of Texas, where I spent time cowboying and rodeoing.
2.
I accepted that I needed to go to a university straight out of high school—at the time, I didn’t really realize that other post-secondary options were available.
3.
It wasn’t until I left home that I really started discovering myself—I found that education was the path to that as I met people with all different kinds of backgrounds, perspectives, and ideologies.
4.
I earned my bachelor’s degree in communications, a master’s degree in communication studies, and a doctorate in interpersonal communication.
5.
It was the educators I met along my journey that really inspired me to want to work in education as well and pay forward the influence and impact that great educators had on me.
6.
I then built my career in higher education.
7.
I spent 10 years as president of Amarillo College and then transitioned to my current position as chancellor of Austin Community College.
