Milestones

My road in life took a while to figure out.
After high school, I ventured into early childhood education, earning an associate degree in child development.
I built my career working at Head Start programs and child development centers.
I earned my bachelor’s degree in marriage and family studies, strengthening my knowledge and experience in the whole family unit.
After about 25 years working for child development programs, I decided I wanted a change of pace and applied for a drug and alcohol counselor position.
I was hired and then proceeded to complete all the classes and training necessary for the position—I loved all of it and knew I had made the right decision.
I’ve been working as a substance abuse counselor for about a decade now!

Day to Day

My days are filled with assessing and understanding clients' backgrounds, including family history, legal issues, and mental health, to address substance abuse comprehensively. I conduct in-depth assessments and offer counseling up to three times a week, often involving clients' families to tackle substance use as a collective issue. My work is a blend of counseling, case management, and connecting clients with resources.
