Milestones

My road in life took a while to figure out.
In college, I thought I was going to become an actor but quickly changed course.
I became a journalist and worked as a freelancer in Mexico and a newspaper reporter in Connecticut.
I eventually went back to school for my MBA.
After graduate school, I worked in the publishing industry and then transitioned to marketing.
While trying to figure out my next step, it dawned on me that there were so many companies doing social good but no one was creating conferences or online content to showcase that.
I created Cause Marketing Forum to do just that—we had our first event in 2003 and it’s been a success from the very start!

We're a small company of six employees and I essentially run the business. I manage our employees, book the locations for our events, and create content through interviewing people and writing them up.

Advice for Getting Started

Here's the first step for college students

I would not suggest starting your own business right out of college unless you really had a lot of insight and experience in a certain area that would give you a leg up. Instead, I recommend looking for learning opportunities through work that will ultimately be able to contribute to you later creating your own business. It's important to have an eye for realizing your marketable skills that can help you transition through your career.
