Life & Career Milestones

My path in life took a while to figure out

  • 1.

Did not get into multiple colleges—thought I would have options—had to brainstorm what other options post-high school might look like. Learned not to find my worth in external accomplishments.

  • 2.

Met amazing friends who stuck with me through thick and thin while growing up and studying abroad. Learned the importance of developing a strong support network and sharing the ups and downs of life.

  • 3.

Leaned into skills and interests and began leading small groups as a Spiritual Life Advisor, endured a difficult academic and social year, found that a commitment to a larger goal is crucial.

  • 4.

Diverted my intended career path to follow a desire to serve in college ministry, going for the first time down a path that my parents were not completely jazzed about, and moved to a new city.

  • 5.

Devoted myself to a role that was much more qualitatively evaluated than quantitatively, found I needed motivation that was measurable, and realized I could pursue mentoring and coaching vocationally.

  • 6.

Returned to the pursuit of seeking out a career in active travel, found an opportunity in the same city by simply being curious and organically making connections and having coffee with professionals.

  • 7.

After 3 years in a very supportive and invigorating company, realized that I loved telling a story, wanted to rally others to take action, and decided to pursue marketing. Also felt a pull back home.

  • 8.

Searched for a job in the NW for 9 months. Felt completely confident the right thing would come up, did some needed soul searching, stayed very connected with my support crew, established resilience.

Defining Moments

How I responded to discouragement

  • THE NOISE

    Messages from Parents:

Don't do an internship right out of school—you'll fall behind in building experience and credibility for what's next.

  • How I responded:

Follow what you're interested in; that dedication and curiosity will turn any situation into one where you learn more than you'll ever imagine. Keep your eyes open to what new opportunities are out there, and be yourself—it often results in an outcome where you get to show up with your gifts and talents and genuine commitment to the cause. Then work doesn't feel like work at all, but more a pursuit of your imagination and chance to use and grow your skills.
