My path in life took a while to figure out
1.
Loved performing on stage, but was more fascinated by production design. My friends were on stage, so I was too. Although I was at every set build weekend.
2.
Decided to go to school for architecture so I could one day build sets for Broadway!
3.
I went to a GREAT school for architecture, but the theater program was not great. My joy for "just" being an architect was ok, but I knew it wouldn't be what I had pictured doing as a career.
4.
I discovered graphic design! Design had all the structure I loved about architecture, but so much more creative freedom ..free form many of the physical limitations of industrial design or architect.
5.
I got a wonderful internship that taught me SOOO much in Nashville. This turned into my first job!
6.
My wonderful husband entered medical school and I found myself bouncing from freelance to job to freelance to both!
7.
I discovered my passion for web development and design
8.
As the firm I worked for grew, I became more involved as someone who knew the lingo of web, design, and how to help clients understand both! Now I am doing what I love.
Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Myself:
It was never said, but you always feel the pressure in a super competitive field to be the best. It is easy to feel like your best is not good enough.
How I responded:
The truth is that there's ALWAYS going to be someone who is better at something than you. You can't do everything "the best". It's up to you to find your strengths and use them to your advantage. Work with OTHERS to accomplish your COLLECTIVE best and continue honing your skills along the way.
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
I have always had a difficult time sharing the load of a project with others. Making it a point to know my colleagues strengths and weaknesses and how to utilize other's help changed that. If you take on everything yourself, you deny others.
