Life & Career Milestones

I've taken a lot of twists and turns

  • 1.

I wanted to be a lawyer, but my learning differences made that impossible at the time. So, stopped at a BA in history.

  • 2.

I wasn't sure what I wanted to do, so I traveled Europe and Africa working as a maid or english teacher.

  • 3.

I had a career in social work for a few years. I loved helping people but it was too draining on me.

  • 4.

I was a stay at home mom for a few years. During this time I was very active in my church and learned more leadership skills.

  • 5.

I was a professional clown for 18 years. It was a great job, but very hard and not very financially rewarding. I wanted to go to Circus School, but was told I was too old.

  • 6.

I started taking improv classes to help with Clowning, through that I started children's classes and shows.

  • 7.

I joined two others in buying an improv theater, I brought my already running children's program to the table. This business has expanded and grown significantly.

Defining Moments

How I responded to discouragement

  • THE NOISE

    Messages from Friends:

My abilities to run a business and lead were frequently questioned - usually in backhanded ways that were covered as concern.

  • How I responded:

I realized that they were not business owners and had no actual experience. When it came down to it, I knew more about my job than they did.

Experiences and challenges that shaped me

  • I don't have a lot of money and never have had. Instead of getting more education which I couldn't afford, I worked in my field. It was very helpful.

  • I have severe learning disabilities. I spell check everything. When I'm analyzing any numbers I turn them into colorful graphs so I can see the patterns better.
