Day to Day

I spend about half my week in the field visiting my clients. My work includes risk control, industrial noise and ergonomic surveys as well as bilingual training on a variety of topics including Supervisor Safety Leadership Development. I am also a fleet specialist so I can talk to my clients about their fleet exposures.

Skills & Qualities Beyond School

Over the years I completed quite a few OSHA certification courses, primarily at the OSHA education center at Cal State Dominguez Hills. I also learned a lot while working in the field in a number of industries, including the petrochemical sector, construction and restoration. As a safety director at various companies, I often had to write safety programs for my employers. And I have been teaching for an apprenticeship program for painters at Cerritos College for almost 15 years.

The Noise I Shed

From Family:

"When I first got into industrial work, my family thought I had lost my mind as I had been working in graphic design and advertising for several years."

It is never too late to change your course. Don't give up on yourself! Keep learning and adapting yourself to changing situations. Don't be afraid to start over if your current career is going nowhere fast. There are a lot of opportunities out there! Keep looking and believe in yourself.

Challenges I Overcame

First-Generation College Student
First-Generation College Student

My mom and dad both came here from Mexico. Mom stayed at home and did a great job raising us. Dad worked hard as the owner of a janitorial and landscaping company. I was the first one to finish college and it took a while as I got married young.
