Stay in touch with people who have helped you in the past and network. Have an open mind & be curious; read the newspaper & have a clue about what is going on in the world. Regardless of your views, if you can speak intelligently about a lot of things, the conversations will happen and opportunities will reveal themselves-- every conversation you have is a chance to network.
