Chief Creative Officer
I'm in charge of our creative messaging, advertising and the work our creative staff does for our clients.
This is a new position with the company so in many ways, I determine what my job is. I've been meeting with all the various department heads to see what's working and what isn't. I spend a lot of time with the VP Marketing and the CEO presenting new ideas to them. I've been reworking our marketing messaging, designing new marketing campaigns and brochures and rethinking how we package our services. We've got a dozen young designers that create campaigns for our clients so I'm working with them.
Here's the first step for everyone
Find a company that does great work and bug the hell out of them to hire you. I did that. When I was a year out of college, I found a design firm that did fantastic work. I bugged the owner for over a year to hire me, even sending him hand drawn postcards while I was hitchhiking through Europe. I bugged him so much he finally gave in and hired me. My next job I was competing against hundreds and I sent the Creative Director a rail road pick. it' was huge and heavy with a note that said Pick Me.
"i was never discouraged from pursuing graphic design and advertising from anyone. Its very difficult to get into the business because there is a lot of compeittion. "
