Life & Career Milestones

I've taken a lot of twists and turns

  • 1.

In high school, I thought I wanted to be a pastor.

  • 2.

In college, I thought I wanted to be a medical missionary.

  • 3.

After spending a month with a medical missionary in Haiti, I knew it wasn't for me.

  • 4.

Thought I'd like to become a counseling psychologist.

  • 5.

Decided I would rather do medicine instead of psychology, but not as a missionary.

  • 6.

After 2 years pre-med and 2 years medical school had to drop out to deal with family problems.

  • 7.

Worked as a financial advisor while going to grad school for business then accounting/info systems.

  • 8.

In late 30's, began career working in financial systems.

Defining Moments

How I responded to discouragement

  • THE NOISE

    Messages from Peers:

You have an undergraduate degree from a Bible college. Why do you want to work in corporate finance/IT now?

  • How I responded:

As you learn more about yourself and more about the variety of different career options open to you, sometimes that means you change your mind. That's a good thing! Some people don't have the ability to adapt like that, or they're afraid to move in a new direction. Don't ever feel like you're limited by your past decisions. What matters most is what you've learned from those experiences and that you're willing to do what it takes to get to where you want to be now.
