Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Myself:
"It's too hard." "You'll never make it." "You're going to be a starving artist." "That's not a real job."
How I responded:
I still have Noise. Sometimes I think I'm not good enough and that holds me back from fully going for it. It helps to have a support system - particularly other musicians who are doing what I'm doing or want to do.
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
Being a musician is so financially unpredictable but I think you just get used to it! It has always worked out so far. The hardest part about it is the uncertainty, not always knowing how much you're going to make in a night, but you have to trust!
I get in my own way so much. I end up taking the safe route. I guess I end up waking up and realizing what's happening, and ask myself, "am I doing this because I think I SHOULD be doing it?"
