Defining Moments

How I responded to discouragement

  • THE NOISE

    Messages from Society in general:

The first chef I worked for told me I lacked passion. One of my chefs in Culinary School told me I was very creative but would never make it in the industry. A chef I worked for told me that the only reason I had my job was because the GM liked me.

  • How I responded:

I knew deep down in my heart that it wasn't true. I kept my head down and worked at perfecting my craft. I focused on that sometimes success comes from how resilient you can be in the midst of failure or criticism. It comes through perseverance and character building, it never just falls in your lap because you want it.
