I manage communications strategy and execution for Mobility Customer Service.
My job is to ensure that we deliver the right message, to the right people, at the right time, and in a manner in which they will receive it. To do that, I spend a lot of time talking to people so I can understand the story they want to tell or the type of response they need from their audience. My day-to-day at the office entails being on conference calls and in meetings, and I also spend quite a bit of time writing and creating presentations.
You definitely need to be able to listen and ask the right questions! You need to be able to write well (proper grammar and punctuation) and concisely. It also helps to know how to use various creative tools such as Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, etc.
Here's the first step for college students
Get an internship that will allow you to practice your writing and creating in a professional setting. Also, working for the school newspaper, magazine, or online publication would be great experience.
