Life & Career Milestones

I've taken a lot of twists and turns

  • 1.

I went to college to be a doctor...

  • 2.

But I changed my mind and thought I wanted to be a psychologist.

  • 3.

After I graduated from college, I wanted a break from school so I got a job with a nonprofit org.

  • 4.

Then after working for a few different nonprofits, I wanted to go work in corporate America.

  • 5.

Since I've been at AT&T, I've worked in sales, human resources and the technology departments.

  • 6.

Each of my jobs, though, involved "communicating" so I decided to focus my attention on doing that!

Defining Moments

How I responded to discouragement

  • THE NOISE

    Messages from Society in general:

No one else in your family has gone to college, so why should you?

  • How I responded:

At a very early age, I knew that I wanted to do something different and more than others in my family. Not that what they do is bad, wrong, or anything like, but I knew it wasn't the life I wanted to live. I studied and worked hard, made friends with a lot of people who are much smarter than me and could mentor me, and stayed as positive as possible, even when things didn't go the way I wanted. If there is something in life that you really want... stay focused and keep pushing until you get it!

Experiences and challenges that shaped me

  • My parents weren't able to help much with college, so I took out loans for my tuition. I also had a part-time job during school and worked full-time during the summers so I could have spending money and put some into savings.
