Messages from Myself:
Any day now they're going to figure out you don't know what you're doing.
How I responded:
So you're new in your job and you don't know what you're doing. Let me let you in on a little secret: no one does! Nor does anyone expect you to know exactly how to do your job on Day 1. Here's the key: ask questions, remember the answers and try not to make the same mistake twice. Find a mentor that you trust in the new organization and schedule regular time with them so you can discuss your ideas and your workload. Question the norm. If you see an old practice that needs updating, speak up!
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
I grew up in a very competitive family. It was stressful to achieve high results in the sports arena and do the same in the classroom. It feels like a small problem now, but at the time, it was all-consuming. Everything felt critical.
