My path in life has been direct
1.
I fell in love with pop music early and started voice lessons at age 9.
2.
Then I started participating in community theatre at 10 years old.
3.
I began writing at 15 and started teaching myself to play the guitar at 18.
4.
I started playing my original music anywhere I could.
5.
I saved money and recorded an acoustic EP at 22.
6.
I realized the acoustic sound wasn't the pop sound I wanted, but I didn't know any pop producers.
7.
So I began teaching myself how to produce on my own by watching YouTube videos.
8.
I put myself out there (mostly at conferences) and have been working with other writers since!
Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Friends:
Somebody needs to tell her she can't sing. She can't sing her way out of a paper bag.
How I responded:
I found friends who have the same goals as me. People who are mean don't matter. They really don't.
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
Rather than paying a producer thousands of dollars to make my record for me, I paid $200 for Logic Pro X and learned to do it myself. Now I'm so much happier with my music because it's all mine and not someone else's vision!
I live in one of the most depressed areas in America. I live somewhere cheap and use my extra cash to travel as often as I can. I also overcame my location by using the internet smartly! I can have writing sessions with anyone, anywhere.
