Life & Career Milestones

My path in life has been direct

  • 1.

Chose finance as my college major maybe without understanding the job options/job market.

  • 2.

Took boring entry-level job. After 1yr and with a little luck, moved to an audit position- found a good fit!

  • 3.

Had a couple great mentors who challenged me. Made a couple moves within the department.

  • 4.

Enrolled in grad school to further my knowledge and prep me for possible new career.

  • 5.

Promoted when other good team members moved on to pursue better things.

  • 6.

Realized that I wouldn't have the support and resources I'd need to excel...wasn't a job I wanted.

  • 7.

Took a leap of faith on a job I heard about from a friend in compliance.

Defining Moments

How I responded to discouragement

    Messages from Myself:

I really didn't have much discouragement or negative noise. Very early in my career & in college I didn't have much solid guidance as not many family members had gone to college or had these types of careers. I did feel a little lost sometimes.

  • How I responded:

I got lucky within a year of starting my first job by landing a job that turned out to be a good fit. When I got there though, I took advantage of having a mentor, took any courses I could to improve my knowledge and skills, read articles to keep on top of industry developments, and joined a women's initiative network to meet other people and learn from them.
