Milestones

My road in life has been direct.
Chose finance as my college major maybe without understanding the job options / job market.
Took boring entry-level job. After 1yr and with a little luck, moved to an audit position- found a good fit!
Had a couple great mentors who challenged me. Made a couple moves within the department.
Enrolled in grad school to further my knowledge and prep me for possible new career.
Promoted when other good team members moved on to pursue better things.
Realized that I wouldn't have the support and resources I'd need to excel...wasn't a job I wanted.
Took a leap of faith on a job I heard about from a friend in compliance.

Problem Solving

Day to Day

I'm on the phone in meetings most of the day, jumping from topic to topic and call to call- sometimes with no chance to even jot down my takeaway notes! But a good day is really one that makes my head spin! When I'm able to positively impact someone- educate them on risks or help find a workable solution, I'm happy!

Advice for Getting Started

Here's the first step for professionals

I'd recommend that someone spend some time outside of Compliance- such as in sales or operations in the banking space first. This will help give them some real-world experience before moving into a oversight / consultative role.

From Myself:
