My path in life took a while to figure out
1.
In high school, a close adult figure was a computer engineer, sparking my interest in computers.
2.
That interest led to my choice to major in Computer Science.
3.
Then my first programming class struck me. I knew I wanted to program.
4.
After graduation, I acquired a job creating desktop programs.
5.
Moved to another company that taught me more.
6.
I gained more interest in web development and found a job that allowed me to transition.

How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
You should stick with a company for a few years first, to get your feet wet.
How I responded:
My negative noise wasn't direct, but environmental. I consistently saw stereotypes and expectations given by neighborhood and surroundings and a high percentage of people in my life had not broken that barrier. It was rare to find someone who excelled. I started thinking about my future more than my present and it shaped how I handled the present to make better decisions to get to where I am now.
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
College wasn't going to happen without any assistance. I made sure to make good grades throughout high school and as a Senior, I started applying for scholarships and college in October and worked diligently, ultimately gaining a full ride to school.
I tried my best not to associate with violent characters. Although, there were times when I had, I knew through my conscience that it didn't feel right and there was better out there.
This was a big deal for me because I always felt pressure, either from myself or unsaid by my family members. I still feel a sense of responsibility but I feel better knowing that I'm following a path to happiness instead of what others want for me.
