My path in life took a while to figure out
1.
I always loved art, photography and design.
2.
I went to school for Photography.
3.
Decided it didn't offer enough variety for me, so I switched to Studio Art.
4.
Realized Studio Art wasn't going to land me a "good" job, so I switched to Graphic Design.
5.
Knew I wanted to go to grad school, so I went to School of Visual Arts for Design Criticism.
6.
After grad school I worked as a Communications Assistant for a Design firm.
7.
They didn't pay enough, so I got a job as a Marketing Specialist at a Law Firm (mostly design work).
8.
I hated corporate, in-hour work. So I quit and got a job at C5. It's a perfect mix of all my skills.
Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Parents:
You should stay in your Law job because it pays well and quitting before being there a year looks bad.
How I responded:
I was depressed because I was in a place I hated. It hurt that the people who had supported me didn't see how much my current job was hurting me. It was hard, but after realizing they were not going to understand how I could leave a secure job just because I didn't like it, I made up my mind and looked for a job that was better suited to me. Now that they see how happy I am and how much I love my new job, I hope they understand that what I was going through during that time was real.
