My path in life took a while to figure out
1.
Grew up in an athletic family (youngest of four boys).
2.
Majored in journalism, so I could write for Sports Illustrated.
3.
Interned with a baseball team in college.
4.
Took a risk and joined Roadtrip Nation instead of taking another baseball internship.
5.
Took a job with an advertising agency as an Interactive Copywriter (and hated it).
6.
Quit my job after two months and moved from Iowa to California to intern in baseball (again).
7.
Stayed in California and freelanced until I could find a job in sports.
8.
Found my current job managing and advising social media accounts on five different continents.
Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Society in general:
You should get a "real" job.
How I responded:
I made it work. I had worked odd and freelance jobs that gave me a taste of different industries and I knew sports was right for me. I wasn't happy if I wasn't in sports. I was an intern twice after graduating college, and had to pick up odd jobs to pay the bills. Always have an end goal when it comes to doing what you love, but if you're loving life (and paying the bills) along the way, it doesn't matter how long it takes to get there.
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
Sports doesn't pay well. My last internship had me working 60-70 hours a week and making a little over $1,000 a month in Los Angeles County. My dream (and the hotdogs at the ball park) kept me going. I found a way to make things work.
