My path in life has been direct
1.
My mom was a teacher and my dad was a university administrator, so education runs in my family.
2.
At age 24, just as the internet was beginning to impact universities, I co-founded an education software company called Blackboard.
3.
From there, I built my career in educational technology, leading the team at Blackboard as CEO.
4.
I went back to school and earned my Ph.D. in sociology.
5.
I joined the faculty at Arizona State University and taught undergraduate classes in the sociology of education.
6.
After earning my Ph.D., I transitioned from Blackboard to Parchment, where I currently work as the CEO.
