Advice for getting started

If you want to become a business student or entrepreneur, nothing can teach better than personal experience. Start a business now doing anything. Register an LLC. Then, if you want to, go to business school and implement your lessons into your business. You'll go from learning theory to experiential learning, which is more impactful. You'll have years of experience when you graduate, which will look great on a resume if you decide to get corporate experience before starting another business.

My path in life took a while to figure out

  • 1.

    I was born and raised in Baytown, Texas.

  • 2.

    I graduated from the University of Houston with a bachelor’s degree in marketing.

  • 3.

    After college, I founded Pro Bubble Soccer—I was able to actually solidify my education by implementing concepts I learned in business school with my own business.

  • 4.

    I worked for a series of businesses before founding my nonprofit organization, Creative Vida, with a mission to educate and empower first-generation college students through creative experiences.

  • 5.

    In addition to Creative Vida, I founded my marketing agency Primagen Media.

  • As a first-generation college student, I wasn't encouraged to join clubs, network, or do more beyond get good grades. I had to figure out the hidden curriculum of college on my own. Now I help other first-generation college students do the same.
