Building A Relationship With The Earth While Living In A City

Milestones

My road in life took a while to figure out.
I spent a year at community college but realized that style of learning didn’t really work for me.
After accepting that it was okay to try a different route, I went to Brazil to be with family and explore different relationships we can have with the earth.
I ended up at a small community in Brazil that was practicing permaculture, agroforestry, and natural building.
I eventually made my way to the Omega Institute in upstate New York while following my interest in holistic healing—the experience confirmed my desire to pursue a more alternative lifestyle.
I spent a summer at a farm in upstate New York, where I learned more about herbalism, food growing, and natural building.
Through these experiences, I learned that I especially enjoyed physically building things.
I found a work-trade in Costa Rica building A-frame tiny homes and learning more about traditional carpentry.
I finally made my way to Community Rebuilds, an organization using affordable housing to address the housing crisis in Moab, Utah, where I’m refining my skills and learning about natural building.

Skills & Qualities Beyond School

Communication is a very important skill for this lifestyle. You can't have a functional community without communication. We need to be able to be open and talk, share, and work through the discomforts that inevitably show up in community.
