My Day to Day

My day is filled with strategic initiatives aimed at transforming education. I start by scouring information channels to identify and celebrate top education innovators. My role involves writing articles, engaging with stakeholders, and navigating challenges to push for systemic change. I focus on empowering educators and students to embrace personalized and experiential learning, ensuring our efforts reach and uplift underperforming students.

Life & Career Milestones

My path in life has been direct

  • 1.

    Thinking I wanted to become a lawyer, I earned my bachelor’s degree in political science with a minor in psychology.

  • 2.

    I wanted to work on Capitol Hill, but was turned down from job after job—I gained as much experience as I could working temp jobs as a secretary before finally landing a job as a receptionist.

  • 3.

    Realizing that you don’t actually have to be a lawyer to want justice and advocate, I transitioned to education and worked for the U.S. Department of Education.

  • 4.

    I spent five years with the U.S. Department of Education and then worked as the manager of education policy for The Heritage Foundation.

  • 5.

    In 1993, I founded The Center for Education Reform with a mission to expand educational opportunities in order to improve economic outcomes for all Americans.
