Milestones

My road in life has been direct.
In college, I dabbled in biology and fine art, earning a bachelor’s degree in both.
I continued on to graduate school—I wanted to design a wall that breathed like skin but no school had a relevant program, so I ended up completing a research-based program in resource conservation.
While pursuing a doctorate in biology, I learned about a book that had just been published on biomimicry—I found the book and read the entire thing in one sitting.
I met with the author, Janine Benyus, became business partners with her, and have been working in the field of biomimicry ever since.
We founded Biomimicry 3.8, a b-corporation social enterprise that helps clients find innovation inspired by nature.
I’m also a professor of practice at Arizona State University, where I teach the world’s first master’s degree in biomimicry.
Keep following my journey
