Advice for getting started

Networking is very helpful for trying to get into tech. Utilize all of your networking avenues: school, LinkedIn, etc. Have a good elevator pitch and if you see an opportunity, take it. Introduce yourself and build connections.

My path in life took a while to figure out

  • 1.

    I grew up tinkering with gadgets, inspired by my uncle’s career in IT.

  • 2.

    After high school, I worked various jobs before enrolling in a college photography program, but I ended up leaving after one semester because it made my passion feel like work.

  • 3.

    I spent nine years working in healthcare before deciding to make a career change into information technology.

  • 4.

    I discovered the Year Up program, which gave me hands-on IT training and an internship that launched my tech career.

    In addition, photography grew from a childhood hobby into a side business that took me around the world.
