Life & Career Milestones

My path in life has been direct

  • 1.

When I was 12 years old, my father, Buzz Aldrin, was the second person to walk on the moon.

  • 2.

As I grew up, every inflection point in my journey was marked by a teacher who exposed me to something.

  • 3.

After earning a Ph.D. in political science, I started my first career as a Sovietologist.

  • 4.

Working as a Sovietologist was very exciting—I went back and forth between the U.S. and the Soviet Union, meeting with and learning from the country’s leaders.

  • 5.

When the Soviet Union fell apart, I needed to pivot—I had written my dissertation on the Soviet Union beating the U.S. to space, so I was able to go into industry working for aerospace companies.

  • 6.

I ended up running business development, strategy, and advanced programs for Boeing’s NASA and launch businesses.

  • 7.

After building my second career in the aerospace industry, I helped my dad start a space research institute at Florida Institute of Technology.

  • 8.

Breaking into the education space set me up for my current role as president of the Aldrin Family Foundation, where our mission is to inspire and excite students to pursue space and STEAM education.
