Advice for getting started
You don't necessarily need to go to college to learn SAP. SAP Learning Hub is free to all students. I recommend using that to explore modules. You can also supplement your learning with YouTube. There is plenty of content to help you learn SAP analytics. Then, when you're ready, you can browse certifications through SAP Learning Hub. If you are in college, you should be able to use your student ID for a discounted fee.
Here's the path I took:
High School
Bachelor's Degree
Management Information Systems
Thames Internationational College Kathmandu
Graduate Degree
Management Information Systems
Lamar University
Life & Career Milestones
My path in life has been direct
1.
After earning my undergraduate degree, I left Nepal to pursue my master's in management information systems in the U.S.
2.
While exploring different technologies in graduate school, I realized analytics was the work that genuinely energized me every day.
3.
I became a math tutor and research assistant while building my SAP skills because I wanted to graduate with more than just a degree.
4.
I spent eight months earning my SAP certification so I could prove what I was capable of before entering the job market.
5.
I applied to more than 1,700 jobs, refusing to quit because I never wanted to look back and wonder if I had done enough.
6.
I landed an SAP internship at Amplify Cell Technologies, during which I volunteered for projects beyond my role for more chances to learn and grow.
7.
I received a full-time job offer on graduation day and started my career as an IT SAP analytics and integration analyst.
Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Friends:
You're seriously still pursuing SAP analytics? You should give up.
How I responded:
I knew I wanted to work in SAP analytics but it was a struggle to land a job. Applying to more than 1,700 jobs looked excessive to other people, but I knew I had to give everything I had. I didn't want to give up on my goal. I never wanted to look back and wonder if I had tried hard enough. Staying committed to my goal led me to the internship—and eventually the career—I had worked so hard to earn.
