Advice for getting started
Consider studying law, finance, or economics to build a foundation for compliance, but know there’s no single path into the field. Focus on becoming a strong communicator, writer, and analytical thinker. When you’re ready to apply for your first job, do your homework: learn about the company, understand its business and the markets it operates in, and come prepared with thoughtful questions.
Here's the path I took:

Bachelor's Degree

Life & Career Milestones
My path in life has been direct
1.
Growing up in Florida, I was an inquisitive kid who loved puzzles and asking how and why things worked.
2.
Surrounded by smart lawyers doing interesting work, I decided to pursue law school in New York.
3.
I began my career in public interest law, gaining valuable experience while also realizing it wasn’t exactly what I wanted to do long term.
4.
As new regulations emerged after the Madoff scandal, I kept hearing about compliance and grew curious about this developing field.
5.
I followed that curiosity into compliance at a time when the field was still growing and there weren’t many people with that skill set.
6.
I found my niche in marketing and distribution compliance, helping firms raise capital while navigating policies and evolving regulations.
7.
My career took me from New York to Los Angeles and eventually Dallas, where I continued growing with Ares and taking on greater responsibility.
8.
Today, I’m a principal at Ares, using judgment, communication, and problem-solving to help the business find a path forward within complex regulations.
