Skills & Education

Advice for getting started

Talk about it. Talk to your friends, teachers, and mentors. That will help you figure out what the right path is for you. Sometimes we tend to stay in our own heads. Talking it out with others and hearing from people who have already been through the high school to college transition can help a lot.

Here's the path I took:

  • High School

  • Associate's Degree

    Advanced Manufacturing

    Austin Community College

Life & Career Milestones

My path in life has been direct

  • 1.

I grew up in Leander, Texas, and was raised by my mom and my grandfather.

  • 2.

My grandfather was an engineer and really encouraged me to do well in school and explore STEM—because of his influence, I started the STEM program at my high school.

  • 3.

After high school, I earned my associate degree from Austin Community College’s advanced manufacturing program.

  • 4.

I started my career with Samsung in their internship program, which is a 10-week course where I was mentored by someone who runs a hardware lab at Samsung Austin Semiconductor.

  • 5.

That apprenticeship led to a technician position with Samsung, which I’m currently doing now.

  • 6.

I’ll be going back to Austin Community College in the fall for the new bachelor’s degree program to study supply chain automation in an industrial setting.

Defining Moments

How I responded to discouragement

  • THE NOISE

    Messages from Myself:

    I didn't go to a four-year university, so I'm at a disadvantage.

  • How I responded:

I graduated from a community college with my associate degree but I have friends and roommates who went to a four-year university. Sometimes I feel like maybe my education doesn't stack up to theirs and I'm at a disadvantage. However, a four-year university wasn't an option for me. In reality, most people are very accepting of different educational backgrounds.
