About Alexis

As a student, I experienced hands-on learning that sparked my love for creating immersive, real-world educational experiences.
After college, I spent time at an outdoor center in Vermont, which deepened my passion for outdoor and experiential education, and inspired me to bring this back to New York City.
I joined the New York City Teaching Fellows program, teaching third grade and reimagining traditional methods to suit bilingual learners.
During my early teaching years, I prioritized nature-based learning, even organizing trips for students to see snow for the first time.
In 2011, I co-founded Launch, a middle school in Crown Heights, to foster belonging, cultivate joy, and develop innovative education models.
Six years ago, atop a climbing tower, we envisioned Runway Green, now becoming a hub for education, climate justice, and green careers.
