About Brenda
- I grew up in Waterbury, Connecticut, in a family dedicated to community and public service.
- I was the first in my family to attend college—I graduated from Yale University with a double major in history and sociology and then from Columbia Law School with a J.D..
- I began my career at an environmental law firm, where a lot of my work involved helping municipalities with economic development while complying with environmental law.
- I eventually became chair of the firm’s Natural Resource Practice Group.
- After 15 years with the firm, I transitioned into the federal government and joined the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in its Office of Wetlands, Oceans, and Watersheds.
- I’ve since spent 20 years in federal service and have held various senior positions at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Council on Environmental Quality.
- I now serve as Chair of the Council on Environmental Quality, where I advise President Biden on environmental and natural resource policies to protect and improve public health and the environment.
