About Margaret

  • I started my career as a caseworker for homeless families and then moved into state government, where I worked on public health and homelessness programs.
  • After being introduced to foundation work, I got the opportunity to work in the Global Programme on AIDS at the World Health Organization.
  • I decided to go back to school for my master’s degree in public policy.
  • After graduating, I began working in management consulting working with state government programs as well as with companies focused on healthcare innovation.
  • I eventually decided I wanted to transition back to working for a mission-focused organization, so I joined the California Health Care Foundation (CHCF).
  • At the CHCF, I helped start the Innovations for the Underserved program, which focused on bringing innovations in healthcare technology and services to underserved populations.
  • During my last few years at CHCF, I started and ran a social venture fund to invest in companies in the digital health space to improve access and reduce cost of health care.
  • After 16 years at CHCF, I joined Hopelab, a social innovation lab working to include young people in the products and services that help to improve social and emotional well-being.
