About Andre
- I was raised by my grandmother in a poverty-stricken neighborhood in Philadelphia—my mother struggled with drug addiction my entire life and my father was incarcerated for the majority of my life.
- My grandmother was diagnosed with liver cancer during my senior year of high school and passed away shortly after I graduated.
- I attended community college for a short while after my grandmother passed away, but the structure didn’t provide enough support for me, so I dropped out.
- I waited tables in various restaurants across Philadelphia to keep up with all the bills that were suddenly on my plate.
- After five years, I decided to redirect my life and go back to school—I attended Year Up’s workforce development program and got the opportunity to intern in due diligence for JPMorgan Chase.
- After completing my internship, I realized that the corporate America environment wasn’t for me, so I moved into the healthcare industry to do medical billing...but I still didn’t feel fulfilled.
- One of my former mentors offered me a position in the Philadelphia City Controller’s office—that was my first professional exposure to government and politics!
- The connections and relationships I made through my mentor and while working in the City Controller’s office eventually led me to my position as the campaign manager for Nicolas O’Rourke.
