Rickey Minor Highlight
About Rickey
- In high school, he had a band, but he realized that he was far and away the most serious about music.
- He kept practicing in secret, but he felt bad when his talent started excelling over his friends.
- Got through it by telling himself "there's no traffic on the extra mile"; realized he needed to break away from the herd in order to find success.
- While he was in school at UCLA, he got an offer to play bass for tour with and Gladys Knight and the Pips.
- Even though he was only 19 and had never even been on a plane before, he left school to go after this amazing opportunity.
- He performed with several big bands on the side; figured that if he worked with as many people as he could, it'd open the maximum amount of doors.
- One day, someone asked him to help form a band for a young singer who was trying to make it big; that young singer turned out to be Whitney Houston.
- He worked with Whitney for the next 17 years, producing her world tours and her infamous performance of the National Anthem at Super Bowl XXV.
