Walt Logan Highlight
If you learn the theory of mechanics, you can do anything...pursue it and learn everything you can about it because one day you are going to need it.
About Walt
- Growing up as the son of a mechanic, his family had a wrecking yard, which is where he was introduced to circle car and drag racing.
- Right out of high school, he tried to get a commission as a pilot during Vietnam, but was denied due to a heart arrhythmia.
- He figured if they wouldn’t let him fly, then he would learn how to work on aircrafts instead.
- Saw mechanics as something “the average guy could get into”; he didn’t need to have a lot of money or certifications, all he had to do was gain the skills that would make him valuable.
- Even though his decision to pursue mechanics received a lot of negativity from people around him, his parents were always supportive of his dreams.
- He worked as an aircraft mechanic for over 40 years, before deciding to pursue his interest in heavy machinery—he now manages Dig This Las Vegas.
- Believes that an interest in the mechanical field is something you don’t outgrow—once you gain the basic skills, you can branch out into whatever specialty you want at any time in your life.
- Doesn’t have any regrets in his life, but wishes he had taken better care of himself when he was younger and avoided injuries that have now made movement in his hands difficult.
