We live in one of the greatest countries in the world because we don’t have to ask permission to make a difference.
About Jas
- As a single mother, she enlisted in the Army Reserves to build a better life for her and her son.
- Within the span of one year, she was mobilized to deploy to Iraq, lost her New Orleans home to Hurricane Katrina, and was diagnosed with cancer.
- Once they found out that her form of cancer was aggressive, the military decided that she would no longer deploy to Iraq.
- She didn’t want to scare her son, so she decided to undergo cancer treatment on her own, leading him to believe she had still gone overseas.
- After she went into remission, she was left unemployed; facing homelessness, she asked the military for help, and they advised her to apply for welfare.
- Since she’d been left without any solutions, she assumed her situation was unique; however, once she looked into the issue, she found tens of thousands of women veterans had also been left homeless.
- Since she’d taken an oath never to leave a fallen comrade behind, she felt the need to help her fellow female vets.
- She founded Final Salute, which has provided over 10,000 days of housing to homeless women veterans and their children.
