Day In The Life Of A Head Nurse Of A Community Health Center

My Day to Day

Each day I take vitals, room patients, and assist our doctors with everything from minor procedures to big questions. I teach people how to care for themselves—what their meds do, how to take them, and why it all matters. Most of our patients don’t have insurance, so I slow down and make sure they’re really seen.

Skills & Education

Here's the path I took:

  • High School

  • Bachelor's Degree

    Nursing

    University of Kentucky

I started my nursing journey after graduating from the University of Kentucky in 1992.

  • 2.

I was frustrated to begin in med-surg, but it became the foundation that allowed me to work confidently in any nursing specialty.

  • 3.

Over the years, I worked in CVICU, pediatrics, oncology, home health, and more—if you name it, I’ve probably done it.

  • 4.

  • 6.

During COVID, I was the only nurse at Shepherd’s Hope—I still showed up daily to serve the community despite the fear and risk.

  • 7.

I became a Guardian ad Litem and advocate for babies born with drug addiction in the NICU, ensuring they got the care they needed.
