Advice for getting started
I recommend diversifying your education by embracing every learning opportunity, whether through college, trade school, mentorship, or on-the-job experience. Never pass up a chance to expand your knowledge. While my specific educational path didn’t directly prepare me for my current work, I believe that all the learning you gain throughout life equips you to pursue any opportunity that comes your way and aids in the ability to create your own path.
Here's the path I took:
GED
Associate's Degree
General Studies
Montgomery Community College
Bachelor's Degree
Organizational Leadership
Colorado State University-Global Campus
Life & Career Milestones
I've taken a lot of twists and turns
1.
I became a mother at 16, which taught me resilience and the determination to make things happen.
2.
I went to school to become an esthetician, then started my career as a makeup artist at a photography studio, where I quickly learned about running a business.
3.
At 19, I moved to Taiwan with my daughter to study Chinese and experience life abroad.
4.
Working for plastic surgeons and orthodontists introduced me to healthcare management and administration.
5.
I spent over 10 years at a vascular surgery center, growing from project manager to COO by filling gaps and solving problems.
6.
In 2023, I founded Brandywine Cow Cuddles after seeing the calming effect cows had on my daughter’s anxiety and my stress.
7.
Through Brandywine Cow Cuddles, I combine my passions for mental health and animal therapy by helping people find peace through cow cuddling.
Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Myself:
I should have a salary position and be more stable.
How I responded:
I think it's very common for people to fall under the pressures that other people or society in general instill as the "right" decision. We think we should be doing something a certain way because that's what we were told. For example, after starting my cow therapy business and finding success in that, I sometimes think I should actually have a salary position instead. But that's just pressure and noise that society has created.
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
I became a mother at 16 years old. Being a teen parent really changes you into a go-getter. If you don't know how to do something, you figure it out. Don't default to outsourcing. I've carried that go-getter mentality with me throughout my life.
