Hurdles

The Noise I Shed

From Myself:

"Neither of my parents were high school graduates, and I wasn't confident I was capable of completing a college degree. Then a near-fatal illness had me hospitalized, resulting in loss of an entire semester of my freshman year of college."

Q&A

Who were your role models growing up?

Asked by Selwa at CSUF

My dad for his work ethic [and] my mom for her compassion. I also had a role model in my girlfriend's father, who would become my father-in-law, [and in] Mr. Sill, my senior English High School teacher and Mrs. Williams, my English professor at PCC.

What interests you the most about the work you do?

Asked by Selwa at CSUF

As an educator I always focused on my students; seeing them grow [and] mature is a wonderful experience. I stay current in my field, continuing membership in several professional organizations; I am learning the value of mentoring future educators.

What advice would you give to students who want to pursue your career path?

Asked by Selwa at CSUF

Keep an open mind, don't decide too early about your pathway in life and college. I grew into the profession of teaching and then educational administration; looking back I can see the path clearly, but not always as I made each successive decision.
