Life & Career Milestones

My path in life has been direct

  • 1.

It was worth creating LIT because I have created something that has never existed before. We impacted hundreds of families if not thousands. To me, that's worth all of the stress.

Defining Moments

How I responded to discouragement

  • THE NOISE

    Messages from Family:

A lot of people told me not to do it including the closet people to me because they were afraid. I used to make a lot of money at my previous job before I started the non-profit. They were worried about the personal toll I would take on.

  • How I responded:

It's not that they didn't believe in me or think the mission was worthy, it's just that entrepreneurism is a scary thing. It is going to be scary but you have to do what is right. If it doesn't work out, at least I tried. You have to believe in yourself and you need to know your "why." I knew I wanted to do it because I felt like every day I was lucky and other people should've had these opportunities. I knew my "why" and I went from there. If you know your "why," you can do it.

Experiences and challenges that shaped me

  • We didn't have funding or space. Every day we thought LIT wasn't going to work out because we didn't have enough funding. We had to convince people we were trying to help but they didn't get it because we didn't have any results yet.
