Milestones

My road in life took a while to figure out.
Honestly, I think I was always a photographer. I was always a little creative in that sense, like a playful kid. I remember taking photos when I was little and just being in awe with the image.
I remember the first picture I took, it was on my moms 80's style polaroid, and I just remember being mesmerized by how I was able to capture what I saw, like capturing a moment in time.
Looking back at that, I think I was always into art, that's where my passion started.
It took me a long time to graduate and dropped out at first. I tried psychology, then accounting, but the whole time I kept taking art classes. I was paying for school so I landed on art.
I started out in sculpture and ceramics and then I took photography as my elective, working in the dark room and developing photos in the dark is what made me fall in love with photography.
I then got an A.A. and my BFA in photography. After graduating a few months later I accepted a photo coordinator job. Even though I accepted that job, my heart was still fully in the arts field.
About 2.5 years into that job I decide to leave and continue studying electronic arts and the emphasis of photography, and got my masters in the arts. All while still keeping in-touch with my job.
Once I graduated, I was offered my job back and I immediately accepted as I love the company and the bosses. I was then promoted to multimedia manager, which is what I've been doing since!

Day to Day

My day usually starts around 9:30am. I check my emails, check our website to make sure all of the stories that are up have all of the images they need to have, I also edit and update all of our online galleries daily. I then start planning for photoshoots, other events that are coming up, constantly discussing with designers and communicating with photographers all day. Sometimes they need an image from our archive from 10 years ago that I have to dig up, things like that. My days end around 7pm

Advice for Getting Started

Here's the first step for everyone

Stay creative. Even though you may not be doing exactly what you studied or what you initially want to do, as long as you stay in creativity, that will always fuel your passion. And, also get your foot in the door somewhere, and work towards the area of where you want to be. Because that will set you up for success. There's no failure if your door for opportunities is always a little bit wider. If you're set on one thing, you might miss a lot of other amazing opportunities.
