Defining Moments

How I responded to discouragement

  • THE NOISE

    Messages from Myself:

When I first went to college, I spent too much time having fun and ignoring my studies. I failed my first semester, dropped out, and it was many years before I was able to return to college and complete my education.

  • How I responded:

When I did finally return, I finished my BA, MA, and Ph.D. one right after another—I had wasted too much time—and when I returned to college I was absolutely dedicated to finishing.
