Everyday, I am given a different type of assignment to do. One day I can be at a town hall meeting and then the next day a fundraiser for a local community. Every day is a different day but there is never a boring day.

Start to connect with people who are in that similar area. The easiest way can be through LinkedIn, finding connections and people who work in the same field that you are looking to get into and chat with them. Sometimes they could refer you to someone who can get on the right path, sometimes not, but you will never know if you do not try.
