How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Teachers:
You're going to the wrong school, you need to major in accounting.
How I responded:
Everyone has a different path and it takes more than just the "table stakes" to be successful. Often you'll be faced with situations where you may not "measure up" to the "standards" set, but it's the ability to take the unconventional route that provides the value proposition. It may take more effort, but the diversity of thought in the marketplace is what can set you up for long term success.
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
I was raised in a single parent home for the majority of my childhood. Suffice to say that money was always limited, but it also highlighted the importance of improving our situation through education. The drive to work hard became the main focus.
