Although it is important to understand teaching and learning if you are going to take on a senior leadership role in education, it is just as important to understand the business side of running an educational institution. I purposely chose an educational teaching major for my master's degree and taught part-time to offset my lack of experience in teaching. My education, coupled with years of experience in industry, helps me better understand all aspects of management and leadership.
